Breathing is important, and things get rather uncomfortable when that action is hindered. One step to breathe better is to have ethmoid sinus surgery. Once you’ve had that and still need something to help you breathe, you are eligible for the SINUVA Sinus Treatment. SINUVA implants are only for patients who have already had ethmoid sinus surgery, so if this is you, you’re in luck!
What it Is
Essentially, the SINUVA implant opens up the sinus and delivers anti-inflammatory medicine to the area, helping shrink nasal polyps. Sinuva implants are an in-office treatment option, meaning you don’t have to worry about an operation to get the job done.
Who is it For?
If you’ve already had ethmoid sinus surgery and wish to avoid any more majorly invasive procedures to help your breathing, SINUVA implants may be right for you. Patients must also be 18 years of age (or older) to undergo this procedure. If you are allergic to mometasone furoate, or any other ingredients in the implant, you should avoid this procedure. Make sure you speak with your doctor or provider about any allergies or concerns you may have.
What to Expect
During a routine office visit, SINUVA is inserted into the sinus cavity through the nasal opening. Don’t worry, though; your doctor will use topical and/or local anesthetic to numb the area. Once in place, SINUVA is generally not felt or noticeable. Your doctor will decide when your SINUVA implant can be removed. Generally, this will be at 90 days, but sometimes your doctor will decide to remove it sooner.
